Another 3-2 week for ol' Racer, which moves me to 7-8 on the year and if
my math is correct, I'm back to even on units won/lost. Slow and
steady, but you would have made money off of my picks the last two
weeks...you know, if that sort of thing were legal. Some thoughts on
what I saw yesterday:
-Watching the UT-UF game and actually found myself rooting for UT. That hasn't happened in a long, long time. I admire that UT didn't quit, but UT is simply not a good football team. They don't have very many playmakers and as this season goes on, they are going to lose more than they win. Something is bad wrong down in Gainesville. I think it has to do with the fact that their head coach is a nut job. It doesn't help that they have lost Charlie Strong (old DC), Dan Mullen (old OC), Billy Gonzales (old WR coach and best recruiter) and Jesus. If somethings don't change really quickly, UF is going to get slaughtered in Tuscaloosa in two weeks.
-Mark Richt irritates me. Somebody needs to tell him that the SEC isn't Upward Football. Being a good guy or a good Christian doesn't mean a dadgum thing when it comes to winning football games. Ask Notre Dame. Richt's done. Those who say he is a good guy and great off the field and UGA won't get rid of him need to wake up. Move Richt into another office and get someone in there who can win games. UGA is in a state loaded with talent. They've got the money, the fanbase, the financial support, the schedule and everything else they need to succeed. UGA should be a Top 5 team, playing for national titles every single year. Not sure and too lazy to look it up, but I think Richt is the longest tenured coach at the same school in the conference, which means he should have a head start and be that much further ahead of all of his competitor's. It's pretty clear that he has been caught and passed. It's pretty clear Richt isn't going to get them there. He had his chance a few years ago, but that was before Meyer and Saban came into the league. What he has to show for his program is an 0-2 SEC start, one win over UF in I don't know how many years, losses to Tennessee in 2 of the last three years, losses to Kentucky in two of the last four years, and an embarrassing loss to Vanderbilt in '06. I think the body of work is out there, UGA Nation. Are you content being led by a nice guy who will never get you into the elite, OR do you want to be a big time program? Kirby Smart and Will Muschamp, two of your own, are sitting out there. They both have impeccable resumes, top notch pedigrees, currently lead two of the best teams in the country, are unquestioned top recruiters and would give up their oldest children if "mama called" them home. What are you waiting for, UGA?
-Watching College Football Final on ESPN with Rece, Holtz and Mark May. The first game they cover was the exciting ending to the Michigan State-Notre Dame game. They go to Lou for the first comment on the fake FG. What does he say? He decided the best angle to to DEFEND NOTRE DAME for defending the fake kick perfectly. He pointed out how you do it and how ND executed, but just got unlucky because the DB fell down. Mark May just says, "Obviously, they didn't execute perfectly because Michigan State scored and won." Dr. Lou didn't say anything. Is this really the best you can do, ESPN? Dr. Lou is a joke. People aren't laughing with him, they are laughing AT him.
-Speaking of ESPN and old people, my god, Lee Corso needs to go. I don't dislike Lee. I feel sorry for the guy. He can't even complete sentences. It's time to do the respectful thing and send him out to pasture. Of course, you would probably replace him with Holly Rowe or some other chick, so on second thought...
-Tune into the Bama game and see that there is a chick play-by-play announcer. Sitting around and all of the typical derogatory comments are exchanged. Then the game starts and lo-and-behold, the color guy was actually the worse part of the broadcast. (Saaaame damn thing was said where I was. ~J) I didn't really even notice the chick and don't have any complaints. The guy didn't even know the right names for people. Jew-lio Jones? Really? He made several other stupid comments during the game, too. All of that being said, I still don't like chicks doing play by play for men's sports. Has any real man ever been sitting there watching sports and said to himself, "Man, I would really like to know what a chick thinks about this game." Stick to WNBA games.
-Gene Chizik after the game, "I told our team that was a God thing." I hate this kind of crap. Truly despise it. I guess God hates Clemson? God also apparently hates Notre Dame and Duke and everyone else who lost. God doesn't win or lose games and he doesn't care. Leave it out of the post-game comments, leave it out of the post-game interviews and for the love of Pete, leave it out of recruiting. Alabama or Texas or LSU aren't any more or less religious or God-like than Auburn or Clemson or anywhere else.

-Welcome back, Mark Ingram. Wow. He looked good. Kudos to Trent for
finding a way to still get a lot of total yards. If only he caught that
circle route! Knee looks fine to me!
